Nesta segunda-feira,Felipe Capella, preparador físico do Botafogo, concedeu uma entrevista à Rádio Brasil e se defendeu das críticas, lembrando a conquista do Estadual em 2018 e da boa arrancada ao fim do último Brasileiro.

-As críticas são normais. Aceitamos com a maior naturalidade, o torcedor quer os resultados, é muito justo, mas, assim, a equipe de preparação física, que está sofrendo essa pressão agora, é a mesma que foi campeã carioca em cima do Vasco, com gol no último minuto, e a mesma da arrancada na reta final do Brasileiro, período no qual, em tese, os jogadores não têm as melhores condições, mas ganhamos jogos importantes, emendamos quatro vitórias consecutivas, inclusive em cima do próprio Flamengo e do Internacional, que brigavam na parte de cima – disse Capella.

– É um início de de trabalho, tivemos 16 dias de pré-temporada, é um período curto para tudo, mas o trabalho está sendo feito da melhor maneira possível. Dentro da dificuldade, da parte física, dentro do que é possível, foi muito bem feito. Esse sofrimento com a parte física é uma situação em que a maioria das equipes do Brasil passa, é natural. Obviamente que essa cobrança toda é feita em cima dos resultados. Se tivéssemos com três vitórias, tudo isso seria minimizado – completou.

Felipe Capella já era membro da comissão técnica do Botafogo antes de assumir o posto de principal preparador físico do clube. Ele chegou para substituirEdnílson Sena, que partiu junto a Jair Ventura, no início de 2018.

Chris Adams, who was sacked as Surrey’s team director last week, believes he has left the club in a position to become the leading county side despite their current position towards the foot of Division One in the County Championship.Adams, and his assistant Ian Salisbury, were shown the door after Surrey had failed to register a win in their first eight Championship matches and had endured a poor start to their YB40 campaign.He reflected on his four-and-a-half years in the role, which he took on straight from finishing his playing career with Sussex, and insisted he remained proud of what he achieved.”Their desire is to be the No. 1 county, competitive across the board, supplying international cricketers and young cricketers. There are times when things run for you and times when they don’t,” he said. “I think the loss of Graeme after just three games was a big blow, particularly to me because I’d invested a lot of my time in bringing Graeme in and building a new team ethos around him.”Adams’ tenure as team director was heavily impacted by the death of Tom Maynard last summer and he remains immensely proud of what the team managed to do after the emotional turmoil of that event.”There are still many aspects of the club, the players, who are coming to terms with the loss of Tom Maynard,” he said. “The last 12 months have been incredibly stressful for many, many people, especially the players who knew Tom very well, how they’ve had to come to terms with moving on has been very difficult.”But I feel very proud that we somehow managed to get through last season and not get relegated – that was a huge achievement – and done with some young players who were battling with some heavy emotions.”

Cuca ainda vai demorar um pouco para iniciar seu trabalho de campo no São Paulo – a previsão é de dois meses, embora ele tenha falado durante sua apresentação em dar uma “antecipadinha” no prazo -, mas já tem alguns desafios pela frente.

Três desses desafios são urgentes e também serão enfrentados por Vagner Mancini, que dirigirá a equipe interinamente até que Cuca esteja pronto: resgatar a auto-estima dos jogadores, dar um padrão de jogo ao time e fazer alguns ajustes no elenco, com chegadas e saídas.

Cuca vai finalizar o tratamento que o impede de trabalhar imediatamente em Curitiba, onde mora com a família, mas manterá contato frequente com Mancini e terá aparições esporádicas no CT da Barra Funda. Seu irmão e auxiliar, Cuquinha, só deve chegar quando ele puder trabalhar no campo.

O RESGATE DA CONFIANÇA

Cuca ainda não teve contato com os jogadores, mas ficou claro durante sua coletiva de apresentação o esforço para encher a bola do elenco e salientar que o São Paulo pode, sim, sonhar com títulos ainda neste ano. É consenso no clube que os jogadores estão sentindo o peso não só da má fase atual, mas também de todos os anos sem conquistas.

-É difícil falar de técnica quando há desequilíbrio mental. O atleta não rende o máximo se tiver problemas mentais e o São Paulo está com a auto-estima baixa em campo. Enxergo o São Paulo muito abaixo do que pode render, muito abaixo. Esse sentimento nos deixa chateados, mas temos que reagir – avaliou Vagner Mancini, após estrear como interino na derrota por 2 a 1 para o Corinthians, em Itaquera.

– Eu acho que vai demorar mais um pouco (para retomar a confiança). A gente conversou hoje (segunda) sobre isso. No clássico, ela começou a ser recuperada quando o São Paulo empatou e teve o domínio. Se você vira para 2 a 1, as coisas vêm para o seu lado, você passa a ter o direito de errar, as coisas já não são tão difíceis… Quem jogou sabe que funciona assim. Acabou tomando 2 a 1, aí pesa tudo de novo. É um processo natural. Você não tem como chegar no jogador e pôr a auto-estima nele. Ela vem com os resultados – emendou Cuca.

O São Paulo tem uma psicóloga em sua comissão técnica: Anahy Couto, que acompanha o dia a dia dos atletas, inclusive em algumas viagens.

O PADRÃO DE JOGO

Ao anunciar a contratação de Cuca, na sexta-feira passada, Raí falou em manter a busca pelo modelo de jogo que o São Paulo considera ideal. A ideia é ter uma equipe agressiva, que goste da bola, algo que André Jardine também dizia procurar. A avaliação interna, porém, é de que ele se deixou levar pela enorme pressão e abandonou algumas de suas convicções na hora de escalar a equipe.

– Eu gosto de ter uma marcação pressionando o adversário para ter a roubada de bola. Eu não consigo fazer o time ir lá atrás jogar. Não é meu estilo de jogo e nem do São Paulo. Agora temos quatro semanas cheias para trabalhar, ótimo para a gente dar um up geral em todo o grupo – explicou Cuca.

Hoje essa missão está com Vagner Mancini. Ele terá toda a semana para preparar a equipe que enfrenta o Red Bull, domingo, no Morumbi, e deve fazer alterações: Antony é o candidato mais forte a substituir o lesionado Everton, enquanto Luan pode entrar no meio de campo, o setor mais crítico do time.

-Também acho que no setor de meio de campo temos que ter jogadores mais leves. Infelizmente não tenho ainda o Liziero (machucado) e o Luan está voltando da Seleção (sub-20), ainda um pouco afastado das coisas que estão acontecendo no São Paulo. No clássico a bola não saía limpa de trás e isso dificultava a chegada dela ao ataque – avaliou Mancini.

REMONTAGEM DO ELENCO

Cuca foi cauteloso todas as vezes que questionado sobre esse assunto durante sua apresentação, mas o São Paulo sabe que ele vai solicitar alguns ajustes no elenco, com chegadas e saídas de jogadores. Os últimos dois trabalhos do treinador que resultaram em títulos tiveram momentos de reformulação: no Galo, campeão da Libertadores em 2013, e no Palmeiras, campeão brasileiro em 2016.

– Acontece gradativamente. Você não chega no clube e fala: “ah, quero tirar esse”. A gente tem que sentir o jogador. Às vezes o jogador sente que o espaço dele não está tão grande, que pode ser mais útil em outro time. O que posso prometer para você é ser honesto com todos eles, falar para eles o que a gente pensa. Ninguém vai prejudicar nenhum jogador, pelo contrário.

Big PictureOn paper, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab appear mismatched on one count- the batting. Kings XI were not tested in their opening game, chasing a paltry 100, but in their next two managed under-par scores of 138 and 124, losing both. A look at their batting line-up explains their apathy. Their captain Adam Gilchrist is struggling for runs, and in trying to break free played a poor shot on Sunday against Rajasthan Royals. Their middle order comprises uncapped Indian players in Manan Vohra, Mandeep Singh and Gurkeerat Singh and expectations from them will always be low, though all have potential. It leaves a heavy burden on David Hussey, who, not surprisingly, was their top scorer in their last two games. Azhar Mahmood is their most experienced player after Gilchrist, but Kings XI cannot afford to leave everything to their middle order and below to bail them out. The top order needs to step up, and give their bowlers a decent total to defend.Knight Riders in contrast have a stronger top order and it makes a difference when the captain fires. While Gilchrist has been under par, his counterpart Gautam Gambhir hasn’t, already piling on 175 runs from four matches. Jacques Kallis’ experience is unmatched, and with Brendon McCullum fit, Knight Riders will find it hard to leave out either Kallis or Eoin Morgan to accommodate him. Having piled on 180 in their last match, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and winning by 48 runs, it is unlikely they will want to tinker with their line-up, unless they have to.Players to watchSachithra Senanayake played his first IPL match on Sunday, and Knight Riders didn’t regret picking him. The Sri Lanka offspinner opened the bowling and finished with miserly figures of 4-0-18-1. His spell didn’t allow Sunrisers to get away to a strong start chasing a big target. Knight Riders will want to retain him for at least another game.It’s good news for Kings XI that Adam Gilchrist’s wicketkeeping reflexes haven’t waned, having pulled off two difficult takes against Royals. It will be better news for them if he can score more runs, and improve on his scores of 15, 9 and 0. As a captain and an overseas player, he picks himself. Explosive starts from Gilchrist will be crucial for Kings XI going forward.Stats and trivia Jacques Kallis needs two wickets to become the second-highest wicket-taker for KKR in the IPL. Sunil Narine is first (31) and Rajat Bhatia is second (26). Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh hold the record for the highest partnership in the IPL.
